Pride Jazzy Ultra Light folding carbon fiber power wheelchair — folding and travel power chairs compared

Short answer: the Jazzy Ultra Light is the lightest at 33 lbs without its battery. The Rascal Carbon Cruiser is the best value at $1,949. The Jazzy Carbon sits in between. And the Go-Chair MED takes a different approach altogether — it comes apart instead of folding.

Folding versus taking apart

Three of these four fold. The Go-Chair MED does not — it uses feather-touch disassembly to break into a few manageable pieces instead.

Folding — one motion, one lift, the whole chair at once

Disassembly — several small lifts instead of one big one

Which is better depends on who is loading it. A folding chair is one motion and one lift, but that single lift is the whole chair at once. A chair that comes apart never asks you to lift more than one piece, but it takes several trips and a moment to reassemble. If you have a caregiver with a bad back, disassembly often wins. If you load it yourself and can manage 35 to 45 pounds, folding is faster.

The weight difference is smaller than it looks

The Ultra Light is 33 pounds and the Carbon Cruiser is 42 — a nine-pound gap. That sounds like a lot until you are standing at a trunk, where the difference between 33 and 42 pounds is real but rarely decisive. What is decisive is the $1,075 price gap between them.

Our honest take: unless you are lifting the chair several times a day, or lifting is genuinely at the edge of what you can manage, the Carbon Cruiser gives you most of the same experience for substantially less money.

If you are flying

All four travel, but the battery is what airlines care about, not the chair. The Rascal Carbon Cruiser's airline-safe battery is designed specifically for this. Read flying with a mobility device from CLT before you book.

Which should you choose?

Choose the Jazzy Ultra Light if every pound counts and you want the lightest chair available, or you want the 20AH battery for longer range.

Choose the Rascal Carbon Cruiser if you want a carbon-fiber folding chair at the best price, and an airline-safe battery for travel.

Choose the Jazzy Carbon if you want Pride's build and service network in a folding chair at a mid-range price.

Choose the Go-Chair MED if nobody in your household should be lifting a whole chair, or if you want the more supportive seating and footplate for longer days in the chair.

Come lift all four at our Fort Mill showroom. This is a decision people almost always change once they actually pick the chairs up.

Frequently asked questions

Which folding power chair is lightest?

The Jazzy Ultra Light, at 33 pounds without its battery.

Can I take a folding power chair on a plane?

Generally yes, but the battery determines the rules. Lithium batteries have watt-hour limits and usually must travel in the cabin. The Rascal Carbon Cruiser's airline-safe battery is built for this. Always confirm with your airline before you fly.

Are folding power chairs suitable for all-day use?

They are built for travel and portability rather than all-day seating. If you spend most of your waking hours in a chair, a full-size power chair like the Jazzy Elite HD will be far more comfortable.

Do you deliver and set these up?

Yes. We deliver fully assembled across Charlotte, Fort Mill, and Rock Hill, set the chair up, show you how to fold and charge it, and service it in-house.
